The Five Steps to Effective Delegation

The Five Steps to Effective Delegation

No person works on their own.  Everyone works with a team or in a team, both professionally and in their private lives.

When building a Team you always need to work with the very best people that you can attract. When leading a team you need to show clear leadership and at all times you need to decide if you are working ON your business or IN your business!!

If you are working in YOUR business YOU are doing the work, if YOU are Woking On your business you are leading and motivating a team. In order to lead and motivate a team you need to master teh art and science of delegation.

There are FIVE STEPS to effective delegation and supervision that will guarantee that your expectations are met with success and the results are achieved.

Step One
The first step in delegation is to become perfectly clear about the results that you desire from the job. The greater clarity you have with regard to the results expected, the easier it is for you to select the right person to do the job.

Step Two
The second step is to select a person based on his or her demonstrated ability or success at doing this job. Never delegate an important job to a person who has never done it before. If the successful completion of the task is important to the success of your business, it is essential that you delegate it to someone who you confidently believe can complete the task satisfactorily.

Step Three

Third, explain to the person exactly what you want done, the results that you expect, the time schedule that you require, and your preferred method of working. The reason that you are in a position to delegate a task is because you have probably already mastered this task. Taking the time to teach and explain the best way to do the task based on your experience is an excellent way to ensure that the task will be done as you wish and on schedule.

Step Four
Step four is to set up a schedule for reporting on progress. If it is an important task, set up a deadline for completion that is a day or a week before your actual deadline. Always build some slack into the system. Then, check on the progress of the task regularly, very much like a doctor would check on the condition of a critical care patient. Leave nothing to chance.
Step Five
Step five, inspect what you expect. Delegation is not abdication. Just because you have assigned a task to another person does not mean that you are no longer accountable. And the more important the task, the more important it is that you keep on top of it.
Action Exercise
1             look at yourself and ask yourself honestly. Are you working In your business,  ie being an employee, and doing the task at hand, or are you working ON your business and delegating tasks to others more able and capable?

2             We all have targets to achieve.  Work out the value of your target for each hour that you work.  If your hourly target rate is say £2500 per hpur, do not do any task that in your mind has a value less than this? Delegate the “Ten-bob-jobs!”
3             What tasks and activities can you effectively delegate you someone else? Which one of your team or virtual team can handle the task more effectively?
What task can you effectively delegate to someone else? Which one of your employees can handle the task efficiently?
Remember...  To learn to master a skill, you need to do one thing 4000 times
and not 4000 things once!!!

Begin to master this in order to grow into being a great leader,
Always lead with Integrity and in line with your values, ethics and principles

“The 4000 Times Rule”

Large organisations are very good at doing 4000 things once!!

The trick is to do one thing 4000 times

Success is borne out of repetition, repetition is borne from determination.
1% of the people on the planet own 36% of all the wealth. 1% of the people on the planet create all the opportunity for the rest.... Why?
It is simple.... they are not superhuman, they do not possess magical abilities, they are not bestowed with luck beyond belief, it is just that they have learnt and master the art of success, by developing their own unique version, by identifying a small number of key and core tasks that for them build success...and then being pigheaded and determined enough to hone and craft these key skill areas through constant repetition until they get it right and the pieces of the jigsaw start to fall into place... ie doing a relatively small number of critical actions 4000 times!!!
We fall down in life, so that we can learn to get back up!!  Those that do not get back up, are destined for mediocrity and failure, whilst those that keep getting up are charting their course for success.
Remember successful people are successful for one reason and one reason only...  they have failed more times than everyone else, BUT every single time they have got back up, dusted themselves off, learnt the reasons for failure and then got right back on with the task at hand.

Remember this quote

“A ship is safest in harbours, but that’s not what they were built to do..”

As human beings we were not designed to live in boxes and drive sofas whilst watching TV!!   The world is an amazing place and it is filled with amazing people and many of these people are working in your organisation right now!!!  Go and find them and bring them into your teams.. and build your success!!
Aim to be in the top 20% of your team. Then aim to be in the top 20% of that top 20%...that will put you in the top 4%!!!  Then the hardest step of all...aim to be in the top 1%!!!

Continuous effort - not strength or intelligence - is the key to unlocking our potential."

Success and Determination

Success comes from determination, determination comes from self belief,
self belief from your inner spirit

It is safer to say in the harbour!!!

BUT that's not what ships were built for!!!

It's easy to give up, it's safer to hide, its harder to fight....but YOU have to live with the one best friend that you absolutely have to connect with every second of the day....Your inner self!!!!

Do you want to live every second of your life hiding from the truth of your potential?

Do you want to always look back on your life wondering what you could and should have achieved?

Do you want to grow as a human or slowly fade away like a dimming light until even the embers of hope fade?

YOU have a CHOICE. We live in a world where we ALL have a choice. YOU have to from this moment take full responsibility and ownership for who you are.

There are two amazing days of every life and every human on the planet.

The first being the day that you are born.  The second, most important day of your life is when you find and realise the reason WHY YOU were born. Some would argue that the second day is a greater of the two.....

BUT there is a third day....and that is the day that YOU DECIDE to take sustained and massive ACTION to achieve your human potential. to take action and connect with your passion and reason for being here.  This day is the most important day of your journey. The day that you decide to take ACTION.

Success comes from determination, determination comes from self belief,
self belief from your inner spirit

If you have read this, TODAY is the day that you decide. Today is YOUR day to connect with who you really are inside, to find yourself, to start to search for your passion and to look for the reason why you were born.

Start you journey today to finding and connecting with your human potential. YOU always have a choice, the time has come to excercise that choice and to take ACTION. Start to take ownership and responsibility for who you are at this time, for what you have done, and for what you want to achieve

You are amazing. We are all amazing.

Come back and link to this site to start telling your journey so that we can all be inspired!!!

Leadership

"Good leaders have good character and good ethics; they do not lie, cheat or steal"

Leadership is a rare quality yet a quality that as humans we all have. A great leader surounds themself with people who are even greater and gets the very best out of everyone. A Leader sets and defines the culture, values, ethics, morals, actions and results of everyone. They Future Pace, meaning that in their minds they are already where they want to be.

A great leader in war commands authotiy by position, wheras in life and in business a great leader commands by respect that is earned and given and not assumed.

The one enduring aspect of leadership is character. Success and popularity is fickle and efemeral...it does not last, but enjoy it while it does. Change is unpredicable, random but is a constant, Change always happens over the passage of time. Through all of this chaos it is the persons character that is the true constant.

We are all only stewards of our time, and our time is now. We must all take up the responsibility and ownership of our own actions and show leadership within ourselves and lead by example.

We ALL have the responsibility of leadership and this is a call to arms for all to seriously take a look at themselves and connect with the leader within. We only have one time...and our time is NOW...do not waste your NOW and your present take action today

Leadership is YOUR responsibility
